Which APK to download, how to install it and which permissions the app asks for
Which file to download
All builds are on the download page. The file names do not change between versions, so the link always leads to the latest regular release:
| File | For |
|---|---|
clodclash-arm64-v8a.apk | Almost all modern phones |
clodclash-armeabi-v7a.apk | Old 32-bit devices |
clodclash-x86_64.apk | Emulators and rare Intel tablets |
clodclash-universal.apk | If you are not sure: fits everyone, but is noticeably bigger |
How to tell which one you need
A phone bought after 2019 is almost certainly arm64-v8a. A wrong pick does no harm: the system
simply will not install a file that does not fit.
The app runs on Android 6.0 and newer, on phones, tablets and Android TV.
Installing
- Download the APK to the phone.
- Open the file. Android asks to allow installing apps from this source (the browser or file manager) — allow it.
- Confirm the installation and open Clod Clash.
If Clod Clash is already installed, the new version goes on top — subscriptions and settings stay.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| VPN | on the first connection | the tunnel cannot start without it |
| Notifications (Android 13+) | on the first launch | tunnel state and the Disconnect button, subscription reminders, update errors, new versions |
| Unrestricted battery | after the first connection, optional | so Android does not stop the tunnel in the background |
| Install apps | on the first update from inside the app | so the app can update itself |
You can turn notifications down with Not now — the app asks once more a week later and then stops. While notifications are blocked, Look and behavior shows a warning with an Open settings button.
Another VPN
Android keeps only one VPN at a time. If you turn on another VPN, Clod Clash closes its tunnel and says that another app took the permission. Turn the other VPN off and connect again.
Uninstalling
The usual way — in the system settings or with a long press on the icon. Subscriptions and settings are removed together with the app. Save your links beforehand so you do not have to look for them: More → Look and behavior → Back up subscriptions (see Moving to another device).
